The 9:45 candle
decides the day.
Five lines, scaled to the day’s range. Three gates. One number that tells you whether the setup is real or just noisy. Built for SPY and QQQ. Read in plain English by a coach who never tells you what to do.
What the anchor is
One closing price.
Drawn at 9:45 ET.
The anchor is the close of the first 15-minute candle of the regular session. From it, four lines extend outward — a half-line above and below, then an outer boundary beyond each. The offsets aren’t fixed: they’re scaled to the morning’s opening range, so a quiet day has a tighter box and a volatile day a wider one. On a typical SPY session, the half-line lands near $1.50 and the outer boundary near $3.00 — but the actual numbers are surfaced live on the chart and in every coach response.
The calls zone lives above the anchor; the puts zone lives below. The rest of the day is just price moving in or out of those zones.
RSI(14) — relative strength index, momentum oscillator from 0 to 100.
RVOL(20) — volume on the current bar divided by the 20-bar average.
Three gates, one score
Three gates have to agree
before anything counts.
Breach
Price closes beyond a half-line.
A 5-minute candle closes above the upper half-line (bull side) or below the lower half-line (bear side). The half-line is scaled from the day’s 9:30–9:45 range — typically near $1.50 on SPY, wider on volatile days, tighter on quiet ones.
RSI
Momentum agrees.
RSI(14) is on the right side of 50 — above for a bull setup, below for a bear setup.
RVOL
Volume is real.
RVOL(20) is at least 1.5× — meaning the bar carries enough flow to mean something.
Three gates pass — score 3 of 3, full conviction. Two pass — score 2 of 3, partial setup, the coach flags which gate failed and what to watch for.
Track record
What the gates have
actually done.
0 signals logged so far — not enough to publish a meaningful breakdown yet. As students drill replay sessions, every signal that fires gets classified by what the next 15 minutes did: held the line, broke down, or sideways. Those numbers will populate here.
Past patterns do not predict future outcomes. A higher score means more independent confirmations agreed at signal time — it does not mean the move continued. The numbers above are a measurement of what happened, not a forecast.
The coach speaks
The coach describes what to observe and what would invalidate the read. It does not give targets, sizes, or directions. Education only — that line never moves.
